"But the noble man makes noble plans, and by noble deeds he stands." Isaiah 32:8
We believe that in order for the Hume Presbyterian Church to reach its Vision by the year 2015 and fulfil its purpose statement, it is necessary to design the ways and means for accomplishing this task. The following are perspectives that help define how our church will approach the tasks the Lord has laid before us.
We believe that primary care and the Christian nurture of people is best accomplished in small groups of ideally six to ten people. All ministries within the Hume Presbyterian Church will be based on and maintained in a small group format. It is expected that worship, prayer, singing, discipleship, bible study, and nurturing will occur in every small group ministry in varying degrees. It is here that we would have individuals understand and appreciate the term "church" and expect all members and attendees to involve themselves in at least one small group ministry of the Church.
We believe in the "priesthood of all believers (1 Peter 2:9)" and that God has given all Christians gifts for ministry to the Body. We further believe that personal growth and leadership skills development is a principle part of the discipling process within the Hume Presbyterian Church. Small Group leader accountability and the developing of apprentice leaders will be a major emphasis of our ministries. Equipping and releasing people for ministry will be the work and responsibility of the Elders. Training, discipleship, and nurture will occur at all levels of group leadership.
We believe that with regard to the lost, "the fields are ripe to harvest (John 4:35)". We believe in doing evangelism in a non- programmed way using the friendliness and intimacy of small group cells to encourage non-Christians to become believers. We expect all small groups to plan, pray and work to enfold, envelope and love at least two non-Christians into the Kingdom of God on an annual basis. Accountability for evangelism will be maintained in the small group areas. Training in how to lead people to Christ will be ongoing at all times. Visitation teams will follow up contacts that are given throughout the week.
We take seriously the commands to go out into the world and make disciples of the nations. To that end we would be a people that promote the Christian mission both locally and abroad. We aim to have 50% of our budget going to missions by 2015. We will engage in the process of planting other congregations in other regions by raising up people and leadership to hive off complete congregations.
We believe it to be vital for the overall growth and development of everyone, that there be weekly worship celebrations designed to uplift, edify and encourage the members and attendees of our Body. The congregation of small groups and cells will come together each week for the purpose of meeting with God, singing His praises and listening to His Word. The worship services will be designed along contemporary lines for the purposes of encouraging a post-modern people group, as well as showing a continuing appreciation for the rich heritage of the Christian faith. There will be skilled worship teams in place producing a variety of exciting ways which will enhance our worship of God. They will assist the staff and session in the leading of these worship celebrations.
